What is the ADAM Architecture Travel Scholarship
The ADAM Architecture Travel Scholarship is an award programme offered by ADAM Architecture. It gives architecture students or recent graduates an opportunity to travel abroad to conduct research on a topic of their choosing in architecture, architectural technology, or urban design. The scholarship has been running since 2005.

What the Scholarship Supports — Purpose and Aid Provided
The scholarship provides a monetary award, currently £2,000, to support overseas travel and original research in architecture, architectural technology, or urban design. Recipients can use the funds to travel internationally and carry out research — for example, visiting historical sites, surveying buildings, studying urban fabric, or exploring architectural traditions and techniques in different regions.

Who Can Apply — Eligibility Conditions
The scholarship is open to students enrolled at a UK or international university or school of architecture at RIBA Part I level, and to recent graduates up to three years after their Part II qualification or equivalent. Emphasis is placed on originality and academic merit: applicants need to propose a research project that offers a meaningful contribution to architectural knowledge, regardless of stylistic interest.

Application Requirements & Selection Process
Applicants must submit a completed application form, a portfolio of work (up to 20 images/pages), and a short CV. Submissions are reviewed by a judging panel composed of directors from ADAM Architecture, sometimes with external judges from academia or the architectural profession. Shortlisted candidates are interviewed in person or via video if needed. The final winner is selected based on the strength, originality, and potential impact of their research proposal.

Expectations from the Scholarship Winner
The winner is expected to conduct the proposed research and then present their findings to the directors of ADAM Architecture and possibly other members of the architectural community. The scholarship funds are typically awarded in two instalments: the first when awarded, and the second upon presentation of the completed research. The initiative aims not just to support an individual’s education, but to contribute to broader architectural knowledge.

History, Purpose & Impact
Since its launch in 2005, the scholarship has enabled many young architects to travel to a wide variety of countries, studying cultural heritage, historical architecture, masonry, urban design, and other built-environment topics. The programme reflects ADAM Architecture’s commitment to investing in young talent and encouraging deep, global research in architecture, bridging academic study with real-world architectural heritage and contemporary urban challenges.
